What Jessica Whitaker says about leaving your 9-5 for your creative business
We had Jessica Whitaker on the podcast and we chatted for a little bit about the trend right now for people to quit their 9-5 right away and dive head first into their own business. With social media, it can be hard to make a decision that is right for you, being that it looks like everyone wants to quit their 9-5 these days.
This is what Jessica had to say about it:
"I think it's really tempting to do it when you see others doing it...especially on social media. Even if people aren't doing it and we just think they are. I was working in photography for 8 years before I quit my 9-5. It took a lot of time and patience and savings. I would encourage anyone who wants to make that shift to just sit down and really map out what would that look like."
She dove into talking about who has an easier time making that leap of faith and to be careful of who you look to for advice on it if you aren't in the same situation.
"For young adults who are single or unmarried, I want you to be aware of who is giving that information out because it may workout for one group of people (who are married with another income)."
Jessica has made it part of her mission to help you make this kind of decision and how to build your business before you make it.
"It was a progression that had to happen with a lot of patience. I think it takes a lot of strategy and planning and it needs to be a calculated leap of faith but there are tools to get there."
Jessica provides tools and resources for this kind of leap inside Build and Bloom. You can join the Facebook group to get started!
