Steffi Lynn: Reaching out to clients and Introducing the Museum of Memories

Steffi is a letterer, illustrator, designer, and muralist who began her career by freelancing while still in college and hungry for work. Steffi went from doing small illustrations in college, to working with huge clients like Samsung, Adobe Creative Cloud, Aerie, and many more. After Steffi graduated, she continued her search for work and her career has blossomed.

We had her on the podcast and asked her a few things we want to share with you.

How do you create your mural art?

“There’s people that sketch on the wall, or use a projector…I’ve seen a bunch of different ways that people work. But for me, I freehand everything and I kinda just use my whole body and arm like I would if I was at a table and just sketching. For me, that is the easiest (not the easiest for everyone). I personally like that best because I think when I project something, I feel a little bit trapped. I like to be able to add something different if I feel like it.”

How do you get clients on a regular basis?

“I still reach out to companies that I am interested in working with. I am pretty busy and I have a pretty consistent amount of work but sometimes when Im walking around and I see a brand with great packaging or IG, I think “I really want to work with them and I still email them. I think its smart and refreshing to keep asking people. Why wait for them to reach out to you when you can reach out to them?”

What are you up to right now?

“This year has been the craziest amount of travel so far because I opened the Museum of Memories in Dallas (based off of childhood memories). It’s a interactive, photo museum/art exhibit. It’s an Instagram museum that’s interactive. There’s a bunch of different rooms with installations that people can interact with when they come in. They can take photos with the props and art in each room. There’s a decent amount of (things like this) in the states. I love seeing installations and big builds.”
