Chatting with Samantha Santana and getting the inside scoop about where she started out and her journey to be where she is today, was an absolute blast! She is an exceptional artist and wallpaper designer.

What are your plans right now going forward with your creative career?“I want to expand into fabrics, but  I want to do so in a way that is affordable. I want individuals that love DIY, because I am very much a DIY. I build things for my own home, and I want them to be able to afford my products. It has been really hard to find a manufacturer and someone local to sell fabric at a price point that I want to sell it at. It is very expensive to print in the United States and I really want to keep it domestic. I want to support local, faster turnaround and less of a carbon footprint.

If I can get fabrics printed, I would love to start producing drapes, curtains and pillows. I have been working with a few architects on a few projects here and there, which I enjoy because they will take bigger risks on the wild side.

I like a more calm environment in my home so I don't have a lot of wild prints. There is a hotel opening up in Phoenix, who have bought one of my prints that is a vibrant pink with floral and cactuses print, which is so cool and they bought it for every room of their hotel.

Tastemades casting director found me and I had to go through all these auditions and tons of proposal work, but they hired me to do a bunch of DIY videos and I am hoping they hire me on to do some more stuff! I went to film school and I like making videos. That is still very much a part of me and that is how I can fit my history into my current career.

It's all about building that relationship with the customer. It’s only me right now, and it's important for me to support small businesses. I would love to grow and have a full time employee - that would be great but I'm not there yet.”

What tips and tricks do you have for other creative women who want to start their business?Just try - if you have an idea and want to do it, just do it. If it fails, just delete the social media account and act like it didn’t happen and TRY AGAIN. It’s okay if you failed at having an idea - failure is natural and it's okay.

Samantha saying this hits home for so many of us. So many entrepreneurs and creatives have many ideas of things they want to create, business they want to begin, services they want to provide and sometimes, it just doesn’t work out. Or the way you are currently doing it isn't working out. It doesn’t mean YOU are a failure. It is so important to dream a new dream, stay creative and move onto building bigger and better things. This reminds us not to settle, and to strive for the career we have always wanted and we all know we deserve.
