Building a creative team with Promise Tangeman of GoLiveHQ
Promise Tangeman of GoLiveHQ came on the We're All Creative Podcast and I asked her all about what it was like to build a team in a creative business. Often, as creatives, we enjoy being the ones to do all the work and make all of the decisions...but I think Promise realized somewhere along the line that she needed to step away and let people do their thing!
I asked Promise how she grew her team:
"It was hard for me to work with some designers and to give my vision...so I tried that for a year and it just wasn't working for me. So I finally took my hands off of it a little bit and I just let my team go with their vision."
"I hire designers who can do a similar aesthetic as to what I like but they don't have to do it exactly the way I do it."
"I feel like I'm not in the day-to-day with the clients. I'm overseeing the vision of the business in general...so I'm not as in the weeds picking and choosing certain fonts for clients. I let our designers do that."
And then I asked her how she felt about letting go of the reins:
"I'm gonna see more progress and get my team more places faster if I take my hands off things that are going to slow us down...I'm the only one who can oversee the whole vision of the brand...so if I'm down in the weeds, I'm slowing the company down. That was something I had to realize."
